I love the smell of wine and on a very personal level, it can be quite relaxing. The human nose can determine so many scents when wine tasting. From citrus down to the smell of the earth, “nosing” wine gives every wine enthusiast a beautiful sensory experience.
However, this experience can be ruined by a person wearing perfume during wine tasting events. This isn’t a pet peeve. This is all about respect – respect to the winemaker and to everyone in attendance. Perfumes or colognes can diminish your ability to fully smell and taste what is in your wine glass. If you wear perfume at a wine tasting, you would be robbing a winemaker the opportunity for his or her wine to be appreciated and robbing patrons of their own enjoyment, one that they have paid for.
