Bounded by Malasiqui in the north, Camiling in the south, Bautista in the east, and Urbiztondo in the west, Bayambang is the southernmost town of Pangasinan and serves as a gateway to the province of Tarlac in the south.

Its name, according to legend, was drawn from Bauhinia acuminata, a plant locally known as “balangbang”. The plant used to be abundant in the municipality but later became extinct.
