Basi del Diablo Wines’ Sigrid Salucop will be writing a book on Philippine sugarcane wine within the year with the help of respected authors from the academe. The book, the brainchild of “In High Spirits” author Dr. Arturo Pacho, begins with a story from 17th Century Bashee Island (now Batanes) and ends with a chapter on the future of the industry.
“It is a compelling story,” Salucop said to me over the phone after mentioning that there is not much literature about the traditional alcoholic beverage.
When asked when it will be published, Salucop said, “It will likely be ready by mid-2017.”
